Thev McLeods moved to the village of Bannockburn in Madoc Township, Hastings County. Hugh was listed there as a farmer on the 1861 Census and as a blacksmith on the 1891 Census. Hugh was also listed as a blacksmith in Chesterville in the early 1830’s according to the book The Story of Dundas: being a History of the County of Dundas from 1784-1904 by J. Smyth Carter (1904).
According to Shirley Forth’s research, Caty “proved herself as nurse, doctor and everything else required.”
Caty died April 5,1900, and Hugh followed on November 4, 1902. They are buried, without a headstone, in Eldorado Cemetery, Eldorado, Hastings County.
